A weekend in Austin Texas

If you have ever thought about visiting Austin Texas, I hope that this itinerary convinces you to do so! Austin is a very lively growing city that has a vibrant food scene and is known for their live music! Whether you just want a weekend getaway or a longer relaxing trip, Austin is a wonderful destination!

Getting around

Because this is just a weekend getaway, you will be able to get where you need to go in this city by simply ordering an Uber or walking. We first took an Uber from the airport to our hotel and then explored the city by foot the rest of the weekend!

Where to stay

As most cities, Austin has tons of options when it comes to where you want to stay during your trip. We opted to stay at the Hyatt Regency Austin, this hotel was so nice, had a great pool, was right on the river, and was at a great location to walk and see the rest of the city!

What to do

With under 48 hours to spend in Austin, we had to narrow down the list of all the things that had been recommend to us to do and eat. The weather when we visited actually ended up dictating more of what activities we did over our weekend because it was very rainy and overcast when we went!

Day 1: Swimming at the hotel, paddle boarding on the river, Congress bridge bats

Before it started to rain we swam at the gorgeous hotel pool with an amazing view of the whole city, and then we noticed that there was a paddle boarding place right outside of our hotel on the river. We opted to paddle board for an hour and it was so much fun! It did start to rain, but we LOVE the rain so we had a blast. Then before we went to dinner, we headed to Congress Bridge to see if we could see the bridge bats! This bridge is known to have thousands of bats that fly out from under it after sunset and we were lucky enough to see it! Be prepared for huge crowds waiting to see the bats! The bats can usually be seen every night in Austin from mid-March to early November! Downtown Austin has great night life and is very lively, there are so many live music spots and clubs to explore before going back to your hotel!

Day 2: Red Rocks Church Austin, explore the city, shop at South Congress

Our second day was pretty mellow! Our home church when we lived in Colorado was Red Rocks Church and we knew they have an Austin Texas location so we made sure to make our way over there Sunday morning before going to explore more of the city! We debated taking an Uber up to The Domain, a large shopping center that was recommended to us, but decided to go explore the South Congress neighborhood of Austin! This neighborhood had so many great food and shopping options and was overall very fun to just explore! And then of course before heading back to the airport we had to try Whataburger to see what all the hype was about!

This is a very chill layout of a weekend getaway in Austin Texas, if you are planning a longer trip and want to see more of what Austin has to offer, head over to my “destinations” blog post on Austin Texas to see all my recommendations!
