Day trip from Denver to see fall foliage

Right now is the perfect time to go exploring the Colorado mountains to sight see fall foliage in its peak! This will be an example trip from Denver up to Breckenridge and Vail to see all the gorgeous fall colors.

To optimize the amount of time you have to explore these amazing mountain towns, I would leave the Denver area by 8am and start making your way up I-70. Our first stop was at Old Dillon Reservoir in Summit County for a light hike with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains and Dillon Reservoir.

Once you finish your beautiful hike, hop back in the car to drive the rest of the way into Breckenridge. You will catch some gorgeous views from the car of some snow dusted mountains as you make your way in to town! Find a parking spot in downtown Breckenridge and head to BrekFast for some delicious breakfast food! After grabbing a bite to eat, now is a perfect time to explore downtown Breckenridge, walk along the Blue River, and window shop at all the local stores!

If you are needing some fuel after all of that exploring, head to Crepes A La Cart for some amazing sweet and savory crepes that can be enjoyed on their cute patio! Then buckle back up to head to Breckenridge Ski Resort. Since this is the off season for the resort, you will be able to peacefully walk around and take in the views with very few people around! We stopped by Robbie’s Tavern to grab some drinks and sit on the patio that overlooked all of the ski slopes!

We then decided on a whim to drive the extra 40 minutes to also check out Vail since we had never been before! Vail is a magical mountain town that is the home to amazing architecture, gorgeous resorts, and unique cuisine! We explored all of the shops in downtown Vail and stopped by Two Arrows for some coffee while we waited for the rain to pass! There was also very few people here making it a peaceful day to explore. I have no doubt that Vail is even more magical in the winter.

Our last stop before heading back down the mountain to Denver was to get some dinner at Flipside Burgers in Breckenridge. We got some amazing burgers and mac and cheese to end our perfect day of exploring the beauty that is Colorado in the Fall.

Go catch some views of the breath taking fall foliage before its gone!
